1997 - 2007 : MootingNet is 10

MootingNet celebrates 10 years of mooting online

MootingNet first went online in October 1997. No one really noticed. After all, back in 1997, who had heard of the internet? We should have become a .com and floated...

Gradually, mooters spotted the pages. We're all really good at detailed research, after all. MootingNet's friendly style and clear guidance seemed to strike a chord with stressed first time mooters.

The site got a revamp, a new logo, and a new domain at www.mootingnet.org.uk. Yes, we know now that it was a daft domain name to buy. Most people now find the site through www.mooting.net.

Emails started to arrive with mooters looking for help. But not just in the UK. Mooters in India, Australia and even Mauritius sent queries. No holiday offers though.

The MootingNet team got invited to watch moots, was listed in directories online, and mentioned in mooting books.

Page views of the site increased from a paltry 1800 in 2001, to over 14500 in 2006. Okay, we're not exactly Facebook, but that's a lot of mooters.

Today there are over 70 pages of the site online, including PDFs of mooting problems, the ever popular mooting forms, the list of contacts for most UK universities, results of the major mooting competitions, and the section that started it all: how to moot.

It's been a good ten years. Thanks for joining us. Whilst we crack open the champagne, do send us any spare mooting problems to help us celebrate. And the next ten years? Bigger. Better. Onwards. Upwards.

Whenever and wherever you are mooting, the very best of luck. Mooting on up...

Cheers,

Kevin Calder
