- ESU - Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition
Queen Mary, University of London has won the 2006 ESU - Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition.
Queen Mary has now won the competition four times in its history but the last time was 25 years ago in 1981.
Michael Attenborough and Vijaiya Poopalasingam beat off Will Dobson and Peter Littleton representing University of Birmingham in the exciting evening final, which was held in the President’s Court of the Royal Courts of Justice
on 29 June.
The competition was judged by a panel of Mr Anthony Diamond QC, Bernard Eder QC, and Geraldine Andrews QC – all members of Essex Court Chambers.
The winners (pictured below) received a silver Mace and a prize of £1,000 each. Queen Mary received a donation of £1,000. The runners up received “The Scarman Shield”, £750 each and the University of Birmingham received £500. The four finalists will also be offered a mini-pupillage at Essex Court.
- OUP National Mooting Competition
The ninth OUP National Mooting Competition Final was held at Oxford University Press
on 30 June. John Hardy of 3 Raymond Buildings judged the competition.
The winning team from Northumbria University (Edward Hetherington and Kara Loraine) presented a strong case for the respondents, and share the first prize of £1,500.
The judge could not differentiate between the other three teams, as the standard was so similar
he thought it fair they share the runner's up prize between them. The three other teams in the final were:
- City University - Laura McNair-Wilson and Tom Asquith
- Buckingham University - Zara Broadley and Richard Taylor
- Lincoln's Inn - Andrew Enga and Sarah Read

- ICLR / Weekly Law Reports
The fifth annual ICLR Weekly Law Reports Mooting Competition at The Law Society
was won by Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
The final with the University of Derby was fiercely contested,
with the judge Derek French commenting on the exceptionally high standards of argument and presentation that both
teams displayed on the night. MootingNet went along and watched what was an
exceptionally well argued moot on the issues of offer, acceptance and economic duress.
Winning mooters Alvin Cheung and Rebecca Drake got their names on the prestigious
winners shield, narrowly beating runners up Vicky Eynon and Pauline Walker in the final round. 32 teams
took part in this year's competition.

- Midland Universities Mooting Competition
The final of the Midland Universities Mooting Competition took place on 4th April and was judged by Sir John Mummery.
The winners were the team from Reading University (James Harrison & Caroline Cabral), who narrowly beat off competition from
Birkbeck University in the final. The competition was sponsored by Lexis Nexis and ICLR.

Glamorgan University Mooting
Competition - The winners of the internal Glamorgan University Mooting
Competition in April 2006 were Richard Main and Christohper James Thomas, with the runners up being Sally Taylor and Sian Harris.

Oxford v Oxford Brookes Intervarsity Mooting Competition - an Oxford team of Timothy Killen and Heather Sargent, second year law students from Hertford, have won the Final of this year’s Oxford v Oxford Brookes Intervarsity Mooting Competition. The final on 9th June was judged by the Rt Hon Lord Scott of Foscote.
In front of a packed room of spectators in St. Anne’s College, they mooted against fierce competition from David Thomas and Matthew Peters, also 2nd year law students from Exeter College.
Tim and Heather were presented with a cheque for £150. David and Matthew shared a runners up cheque for £80.
De Montfort University's internal mooting competition took place on 3rd April and was judged by Professor Richard Card.
The winners were Michael Nkrumah and Phillip Price, who will be jointly awarded the Leicestershire Law Society Mooting Cup, sponsored by New Street Chambers.
